Welcome to Mythic Anorak!
I'm primarily a gamer, writer, and proofreader, though I also dabble in programming, game design, and digital composing. You'll see me around the internet under the name SSCaide, though I also appear in a few places as Mythic Anorak, generally where it pertains to my more professional work.
I'm a big fan of the MMO Guild Wars 2, which is the game I put most of my playtime into. I'm also a connoisseur of anime and manga, and I work as a proofreader for a popular fan translation of the web/light novel series Re:Zero.
Aside from this blog, my main personal project is Mythos, a series which I hope to eventually release as a webnovel.
This Blog
Here on the Mythic Anorak blog, I write about various things I'm interested. The majority of my posts focus on Guild Wars 2, but I don't strictly limit myself to writing about my favorite game.
Many of my posts are reviews—of games I've played, of each new GW2 patch, of anime, TV shows, or movies I've watched, or of books or manga I've read.
When a topic strikes my particular fancy, I also like to write posts where I more deeply analyze an aspect of one of the above mediums—whether that takes the form of discussing game design or taking a close look at a character or plotline.
Finally, if one of my articles sparks a considerable amount of conversation—either here or on an external site—I sometimes make follow-up posts where I comment on the ideas presented by commenters, whether that's considering ideas they've added to my original post, responding to arguments or critiques, or correcting common misconceptions. These posts are always marked as "Community Follow-Up".
Guild Wars 2
As GW2 is the primary focus of this blog, I feel it's only appropriate to give more context as to my experience with the game—a bit of proof that I actually know what I'm talking about.
I've had my account for a little over 6 years, starting in 2018, but I only really started playing actively around 5 years ago. I spent my first few years focused on open-world and story content and achievement hunting, though I eventually got started with the endgame community learning raids in 2022. Since then, I've completed almost all instanced encounters in the game, and while I'm not particularly invested in chasing benchmarks or logs, I am at a point where I'm proud of my abilities.
For reference, I'll keep a running list of all the encounters I haven't beaten yet here and do my best to keep it updated:
- Dhuum CM
- Wing 6 CMs
- Wing 8 CMs (currently progging)
- HTCM
- Cerus CM & LCM
- Lonely Tower CM
I've pursued a larger goal during my time playing GW2: to reach 100% achievement completion. I use third-party achievement tracking tools—namely MetaGamerScore and TrophiesHunter—to track my progress on this quest. If you're interested in following my journey, I post daily* updates on my Bluesky regarding my progress. As of March 20th, 2025, I am roughly 67% done.
*Only on days where I've actually made progress.
Mythos
Mythos is a fantasy web series written by me, with a few of the characters and other contributions from a few of my close friends. It follows the adventures of a band of 4 Humans—the last of a race that was thought extinct hundreds of years ago. In a world populated by races and monsters resembling creatures from across various folklores and mythologies, the only weapons our heroes have are their wits—and each other.
If you're interested in learning more about Mythos or in hearing updates about its development, you can follow the official Bluesky account; alternatively, check out the Mythos Wiki, which I keep updated with all the publicly available Mythos knowledge there is.
Short Stories
While we aren't ready to begin releasing Mythos's main story yet, we have released a few short stories which take place in the world of Mythos. If you're at all interested in this series, I highly recommend giving them a look!
The Tales of Mythos series consists of paid short stories meant to introduce various characters, locations, events, and aspects of Mythos's world and lore. Here's where you can find them:
The Mythos Prelude series consists of free serialized anthologies which tell the backstories/origins of each of Mythos's main characters. Here's where you can find them:
- Tapas (Due to character limits, chapters on Tapas are split into additional parts)
- Royal Road
- Inkitt
- AO3
